Pair of velocies on a mid-morning Cretaceous hunt.

Velociraptor mongoliensis, done with Prismacolor pencils.

[Edit] I wanted to add to this since some people seem to be confused about the "hairy" look of the raptors. It's not fur, it's proto-feathers. Yes, raptors were most likely covered with a fine layer of primitive feather-like structures, and this idea is reinforced by closely-related dino finds, mainly from China, with obvious feathery imprints. Sinornithosaurus is the best example, and is VERY closely related to velociraptor.

Other feathery dinos include caudipteryx, protarchaeopteryx, sinosauropteryx, and archaeopteryx - all of which have been found with feather imprints. Secondly, some raptor skeletal features are REMARKABLY similar to those of modern birds, like the hip structure, pelvis and hand bones. Most paleontologists are pretty sure that modern birds descended from dinosaurs like velociraptor. I encourage everyone to read up on feathered dinos. Because, you know, knowledge is power and all that jazz. [link]

Also, the coat pattern is derived from that of an ocelot.

Simply stunning! ^___^ I -love- how all the colors blend...really gives the feeling of a jungle atmosphere.

Great work- makes me fall in love with raptors all over again. <^-^>

They look like...jaguars. Leopards. Some kinda cat. Anyway, they're spotty. I like it.
I wish I could spend that much time on backrounds. Yours are so detailed!

Thanks. And yes, I modeled the pattern directly off an ocelot photo.

Amazing! This is absolutely amazing. I must have spent a good fifteen minutes just absorbing all the detail and lighting. I was absolutely speechless; there's so much awesome detail in this, from the plants to the fur, to the lighting to just ... everything. It looks almost real.

I wish I could say more. This puts me beyond words at the moment. o_o

Bah, I posted too early; the exact reason I love this so much just occurred to me. What has to be the most amazing thing about this is the sheer DIVERSITY. There's so many different types of plants! I couldn't possibly name them all, but it's an amazing amount of dedication this shows, what with all the ferns and trees and fungi and dead leaves on the ground.

Work of art, this. *_*

:+fav:'d!

I’m impressed with your ability to draw textures as usual, but the scenery seems a bit unrealistic for Mongolia. Mongolia wasn’t that different in the Cretaceous period from how it is today.

Awsomely cool. While a tad on the "busy" side, it's nontheless very impressive. Insta-fav!
