Artist's Comments

Still-life homework for my oil painting class. As you can probably tell, I'm extremely new to painting and this is, in fact, my first finished oil painting ever.

These are three real skulls I own: raccoon on top of a red fox, bobcat in the back to the right.

I bought them online. You'd be amazed at how easy to find and often inexpensive skulls are. :) Try eBay.

Most small North American mammals (foxes, bobcats, small mustelids, rodents, rabbits etc) can be found for under $20. Some as cheap as $5 in good condition. The skulls of rarer animals like wolverines and wolves are harder to find and tend to go for $100+.

ohh i'll check it out. i had a dead fox in my woods so i cut the head off and buried the skull in my woods until it turned to bone... kind of morbid.
